Good morning {{first_name|friend}},
I'm an only child, raised by my grandmother. She worked long retail hours at Kmart, and she never once talked about "hustle." She just showed up, did the work, and let it speak.
I think about her when a platform changes its rules. The people who are actually doing the work usually come out fine. Today's news is a good example.
QUIET WIN: THE NEWS
Etsy bans AI-generated patterns, recipes and instructions. CNBC (Oct 22) reports that Etsy will no longer allow AI-made "functional guides" (patterns, recipes, instructions). Sellers must show an actual item made from the instructions, include at least one unedited photo of the real item, and can't use bot-generated listings with no human involvement. AI art is still allowed if the seller plays a clear role and discloses it.
Why it matters to you: if you sell digital products, real proof of your own work just became an advantage. Your quiet, careful work is now what the platform is looking for.
Kindle Unlimited is now Kindle Plus, and KDP authors get audiobooks in it. The Verge (Oct 22) reports the $11.99/month subscription was renamed and now includes thousands of audiobooks in the U.S., including "virtual voice" AI narration. New KDP Select titles get virtual voice audiobooks automatically, and authors can opt in older titles or use human-narrated ACX audiobooks.
Why it matters to you: a book you wrote once can now reach listeners too, with no microphone and no camera.
TOOL OF THE DAY: CANVA
What it does: drag-and-drop design for product covers, PDF guides, social graphics and simple sales-page images.
Free tier: Canva Free costs $0 (checked on Canva's pricing page today); paid plans add premium templates, brand kits and more AI features.
Use it without selling: design the cover and inside pages of a small PDF guide once, then let it work as a product or a free signup gift.
WATCH: "WHO ARE YOU, REALLY? THE PUZZLE OF PERSONALITY" | BRIAN LITTLE | TED
Why watch: a personality psychologist (and fellow introvert) explains why we can act out of character for things we care about, and why we need a "restorative niche" afterward. It's a useful frame for building a business without wearing yourself out.
TRY THIS TODAY (15 MINUTES)
Pick one thing you already know how to do well. In Canva, make a one-page "how I do it" checklist, written by you, not generated. Take one real photo of the result. That page could become a free lead magnet or your first $9 product.
HIT REPLY
What's one skill people keep asking you about, even though it feels obvious to you? Hit Reply and tell me. The obvious-to-you stuff is usually the product.
Quietly sovereign,
Sterling
